Livestock

At Rock Bottom Ranch, it is not in our philosophy to raise animals for the sake of producing meat alone.  It is only when the benefits of our livestock extend to improving the health of our land that we choose to raise them and market their products. We are privileged to have a 40 acre abundance of pasture.  These pastures need animals to graze them as much as animals need pastures in which to graze - a coevolved and symbiotic (when well managed) relationship.

We raise a lot of animals in a season at Rock Bottom Ranch, but what we’re really raising year after year is improved pasture. Just as much as we are livestock farmers, we are grass farmers, and we are farmers of the soil microbiome.  We could not continue to effectively produce high quality meat without reverence to its fundamental source.

Our livestock systems are biomimicry based, emulating the historical flow of migratory grazers across grasslands and their relationships to plants, insects, birds, predators, and nature at large.
