Cattle

We partner with Cap-K Ranch, a family cattle ranch up the Fryingpan valley and raise 100% grassfed grass finished beef. Cattle are integral to our land stewardship at Rock Bottom Ranch. They’re moved regularly around our pastures to mow evenly, cycle nutrients, and aid the pastures in carbon sequestration.

We graze cattle at Rock Bottom Ranch from mid-May through Mid-October. Cap-K Ranch raises Salers/ Angus crosses.

Black Angus cattle are a polled breed that have efficient weight set, dependable calving abilities, and a consistent market appeal in the U.S.

Salers is a French beef breed known for its foraging capabilities, sturdy frame, efficient weight set, and gentle disposition.  Moreover, they are especially well-adapted to altitude, and thus are resistant to high mountain brisket disease - heart failure due to hypoxic pulmonary hypertension in cattle residing at high altitudes (>7,000 feet).
